Molar Mass Calculator
Calculate molar mass from a chemical formula, including hydrates and parenthetical groups, with an element-by-element mass breakdown.
| Element | Count | Atomic mass | Contribution | Percent composition |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| H | 2 | 1.008 | 2.016 | 11.19% |
| O | 1 | 15.999 | 15.999 | 88.81% |
Atomic masses based on IUPAC 2021 standard atomic weights.
What This Tool Does
Calculate molar mass from a chemical formula, including hydrates and parenthetical groups, with an element-by-element mass breakdown.
molar mass = Σ(atom count × atomic mass)
Worked Example
Glucose, C6H12O6, gives about 180.156 g/mol. Copper sulfate pentahydrate, CuSO4·5H2O, gives about 249.682 g/mol.
Common Mistakes
Watch for missing parentheses, zero subscripts, or hydrate dots. CuSO4·5H2O is not the same as CuSO4H2O.
